A Hands-On Distillation Experience at North Country Lavender Farm

Step into the fragrant world of lavender and experience the journey from field to bottle. Our Essence of Lavender Workshop is an immersive, hands-on class where you’ll harvest fresh lavender, learn the art and science of steam distillation, and create your own lavender products to take home.

Whether you’re a gardener, DIY enthusiast, wellness lover, or simply looking for a unique Northern Michigan experience, this workshop offers a memorable opportunity to connect with nature and discover the many uses of lavender.

During this 2–2.5 Hour Experience You’ll:

Welcome & Introduction

* Enjoy a refreshing glass of lavender lemonade or a cup of one of our lavender teas.
* Learn about the history of lavender, the different varieties grown at North Country Lavender Farm, proper harvesting techniques, and the safe use of essential oils.

Harvest Fresh Lavender

* Stroll through the lavender fields and harvest your own fresh lavender.
* Learn the proper way to cut, bundle, and prepare lavender for distillation.
* Take home your freshly harvested lavender bundle.

Experience Steam Distillation

* Help load our distillation still with freshly harvested lavender.
* Watch as steam transforms lavender into pure essential oil and fragrant hydrosol.
* Learn how essential oils are produced, why yields vary, and the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils.
* Discover proper storage methods, shelf life, and the differences between culinary and aromatic lavender varieties.

Create Your Own Lavender Products
Using lavender from the day’s distillation, you’ll make and take home:

* 5 mL Pure Lavender Essential Oil
* 2 oz Lavender Hydrosol Facial & Body Mist
